Running Flamethrowers and Naval Cutlass Swords is a great way to generate a quick 3-8% return on several million dollars.
Any time you travel, I recommend purchasing the native country's flower and reselling it on the item market. Players with the bachelors of history degree will purchase these flowers to create points via the Museum.
However, when traveling to Argentina or the Cayman Islands you open yourself up to the opportunity to bring back items to Torn City that you can resell to players via your bazaar or on the item market for slightly higher than you purchased it from the game. Also known as a profit margin!
Why do players pay more for these items?
- Selling items back to the game is an easy way to achieve merits related to Rank & Networth. The Flamethrower, for example, can be purchased for $3,000,000 from Argentina, and sold back to the game for $2,500,000, generating a total of $2.5 million networth and an 83% return per dollar spent. Similarly, the Naval Cutlass Sword can be purchased for $50,000,000 from the Cayman Islands and sold back to the game for $40,000,000, generating a total of $40 million networth with an 80% return per dollar spent. The profit you make is the difference between what you purchase the item for from the game while traveling, and what players looking to increase their networth will pay in the item market.
For more information on Networth, I recommend checking out the TCBasic Networth Page.
Be aware that the Flamethrower and Naval Cutlass Sword may be sold out upon arrival to your travel destination, so a return is not guaranteed. The restocking of these items appears to be random.
What do I need to have to begin running items?
- Technically, when you reach level 15 you can begin to profit from running items. However, I recommend purchasing a Large Suitcase (ability to bring back +4 items), having a Private Island with an Airstrip (free travel with shorter travel time) and owning a Bazaar (no commission on items sold). Bear in mind you will need to bring along $3 million per flamethrower you plan on purchasing and $50,000,000 per Naval Cutlass Sword you plan on purchasing.
Below is a chart from the Torn City Wiki Travel Page highlighting travel times and costs associated with traveling:

Finally, be aware! As with just about every transaction you make in Torn City, you run the risk of getting mugged by the player purchasing the item(s) from your bazaar due to the potentially high amount of cash you will have on hand upon making the sale. Because of this, I recommend you keep an active eye on your bazaar sales... especially if you have low battle stats and several Naval Cutlass Swords for sale!
Happy Profiting!

ReplyDeleteThis is SO confusing. You buy a flamethrower for 3 million. Then you sell it in Torn City for 2.5 million, which is a loss of half a million dollars. How does that gain you an increase in net worth over what you had before buying the flamethrower, when you've just lost half a million?
